J1-Con FAQ

General Information

Q: What are the hours of the convention?

A: The 2-day convention will take place from SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2023 through SUNDAY, NOVEMBER, 5 2023. A special event The convention will be open from:

FRI. (NOV. 4): 8pm – 11pm: All Ages COSPLAY PROM

SAT. (NOV. 5): 11am – 7pm

SAT. (NOV. 5): 6pm – 8pm: COSPLAY CONTEST

SAT. (NOV. 5): 8pm: PLAYSTATION 5 RAFFLE

SAT. (NOV. 5): 9pm – 2am: 18+ After Party

SUN. (NOV. 6): 11am – 7pm

Q: What are the COVID-19 policies?

A: Proof of vaccination, or masks are not required. While masks are not required, they are strongly encouraged. The C.D.C. strongly recommends that all persons, regardless of vaccination status, wear a mask in public, especially indoors, and maintain social distancing when possible.

Q: What are the ticket prices?

A: Ticket pricing can be found here: https://j1con.com/tickets/. We aim to keep prices low and are proud to bring you all of the exciting features planned at a reasonable cost. 

Q: What information is available about the panels, what they’re about, and what is on the schedule?

A: We have everything you need at www. J1con.com, from the schedule, the floor map, to guest information! You can also pick up a program at the information desk or the J1-Studios table.

Q: I’m looking for a specific Panel, Vendor and/or Guest – where do I find them?

A: Panels and Vendors are spread throughout our con floor area. All details about our guests, panel areas and vendors are posted here at www.j1con.com/panels

Q: What are some of the features I can look forward to? Guests, events, panels?

A: We have so much in store for this weekend! Everything can be found in one of the following places:

Q: Do I have to dress up in a costume/cosplay?

A: Nope – cosplay is not a requirement for entry. We welcome everyone, those in cosplay or not. You should dress comfortably. There are a lot of people who do dress in cosplay/costume – either way, we support creativity (and be sure to do the same)!

Food

Q: Where can I get food?

A: You have lots of choices, both within the hotel and beyond. Within the hotel, you can get coffee/breakfast foods at the cafe at the hotel entrance, lunch/dinner/drinks at the restaurant/bar area in the rear of the hotel (facing the beach), such as Bricker’s Burgers and More, ACE Restaurant, Surf Bar. There are plenty of food choices along the boardwalk including the Hard Rock Cafe, Landshark, Dunkin Donuts and eateries near the rides.

Q: Can I bring my own food in?

A: Yes. There are also restaurants in the hotel if you like and many places in the area. We simply ask that you be mindful and clean up after yourself when you are finished eating.

Registration/Tickets


Q: It’s after the pre-registration cutoff and I want to register. Why can’t I?

A. We have to cut off pre-registration to give our team time to prepare for the convention, which includes admin and organizational tasks, ensuring we have registration ready for processing, and other fixes.

Q: Is at-door entry cash only or can I pay with a card?

A: Currently, we are a cash only event. There are ATMs only a few feet away, in the hotel.

Guests/Panels

Q: Where can I find additional information on Guests?

A: We are super excited about our guests this year. Guest information is viewable at www.j1con.com/guests.

Q: Will Guests Sign Autographs?

A: Yes! While some guests will sign autographs at no charge, this is up to the guests’ individual discretion.

Q: Can I take pictures of Guests or Panelists?

A: Picture-taking is done on a case by case basis. Most Panelists don’t mind picture-taking so unless they object, feel free! Guest photography is at that guest’s discretion. If a guest clearly has policies against photography, signs will be posted so unless otherwise stated, photography is welcome.

Q: Can I take pictures of Guests?

Safety


Q: What do I do if I have a problem or emergency?

A: If you’re hurt or have an emergency, reach out to the closest J1-Con staff or security (or hotel staff or security) as soon as possible

Q: My cosplay includes weaponry, will I have to check them?

A: Real/authentic weapons are not allowed. We (staff/security) reserve the right to check/hold onto anything, prop or otherwise, that we deem potentially harmful or dangerous to others. These will be returned upon leaving the con.

Q: Do you make special accommodations for disabled con-goers?

A: J1-Con makes every effort to accommodate the needs of our con-goers. If you have special needs, please let us know at least a month before the convention so we can ensure accommodations are available.

For those with limited mobility, we make every reasonable effort to accommodate people with such disabilities. Please reach out to a staff member or volunteer if assistance is needed during the con. We also highly recommend that you wear any applicable indicators about your medical condition, such as medical ID jewelry or wallet cards.

Gaming

Q: Where is the gaming area?

A: This year everything is in close proximity with clear signage, and a map of the event floor is on the site at www.j1con.com/panels and in the programs.

Q: What time do the tournaments take place?

A: See www.j1con.com/gaming for any sign up and start times.

Q: Can I sign up for different games on the same day?

A: Absolutely

Q: Will there be online registration for Game tournaments?

A: No, on-site only

Q: Will controls be provided for free play in tournaments?

A: For tournament play, it’s byoc (bring your own controller). Controllers will be provided for free play only.

Q: What day can I start signing up for game tournaments?

A: Day of the tournament only

Q: Can I bring my own Console? Can I rent a controller?

A: No outside consoles are allowed. While we will not have rental services for controllers, you can feel free to ask a fellow gamer!

Q: Will there be tabletop games?

A: Yes!

Q: What are the rules of all the tournament games? What are the start times of tournaments and sign-ups?

Q: What is the cap of player sign-ups?

A: Each tournament has a maximum of 64 entries.

Q: Is the venue handicap accessible?
A: The venue is handicap accessible.

Q: When is the cosplay competition?

Q: I want to enter the cosplay competition, how and when do I sign up?

A: Awesome! Sign up is at the J1-Studios table on the event floor, one of the first tables you’ll see when entering the con space. The cut off for sign up is typically between 30 minutes to an hour before the competition starts.

Q: When/where is the after party? What other information is available about the after party?

A: The after party will feature Cosplay Burlesque and NerdCore music! The fun will begin at 9pm on Saturday evening. You must be 18+ to enter. The fee at the door is $10 if you have your con badge/wristband, $20 without the con badge/wristband. It’s FREE for J1 ELITE COIN MEMBERS, VIPs. GUESTS, PRESS, VENDORS, VOLUNTEERS, & STAFF.

Volunteers

Q: How do I become a volunteer? Do I get paid?

A: We are able to run a successful convention thanks in part to the help of volunteers! Volunteer FAQ details can be found here https://j1con.com/tickets/volunteer-faq/. You can submit an application to be a volunteer here: https://j1con.com/tickets/volunteer-form/. Note that volunteers do not get paid – your perk is entry into the convention, experience working and supporting an awesome con.

Additional Information

Q: Will there be Wi-Fi?

A: Yes! Free wi-fi will be available

Q: Can I leave and come back?

A: As long as you are wearing your con badge/pass you can come and go as you please.

Q: What is the raffle prize, when is it, and where will the winners be announced?

Q: I’ve heard a lot about badge perks. What are the perks for bringing my badge from the previous year?

A: Badge perk details coming soon!

Q: How can I be a vendor or sponsor next year?

A: We have lots of opportunities for vendors and sponsors. Keep an eye on the site at www.j1con.com and you can email  j1coninformation@gmail.com with inquiries.

Q: I lost something, what do I do?

A: Check first with the lost and found at the J1-Con Information table. Note that while we will do what we can to help you find your item, we are not responsible for lost items.

Q: I lost my badge, what do I do?

A: Unfortunately we cannot replace lost or stolen badges (for many reasons including minimizing scalping opportunities, fraud etc..). If you cannot find the badge in the lost and found and plan on re-entering the convention, you will have to purchase another badge.

Q: Who do I contact if I realized I lost items after the convention is over?

Q: Can I bring animals into the con?

A: The Showboat Hotel is proudly animal-friendly (see their policies at )! We do have a slightly stricter consideration for the con floor however, simply for the protection of everyone. Thus on the con-floor, we only allow animals who are needed for those with disabilities or those with special needs. Check in at the Registration desk with any additional questions.

Q: If I’m a parent bringing my young kid, is there anywhere I can sit and wait for them without paying?

A: Con floor access requires a badge/pass. However, as the con is in the Showboat Hotel, you may be able to sit and wait in any general area outside of the con floor that allows the general public. Note you’ll have to oblige by all policies outlined by the Showboat (http://www.showboathotelac.com/).
